Vanessa Hall-Patch
February 19 - March 23, 2008

After obtaining her Masters of Fine Arts in printmaking from the University of Alberta, Vanessa Hall-Patch's works have been exhibited and published in Canada as well as in Japan and the Netherlands.

The initial inspiration behind TIDAL comes from a small historical photograph Hall-Patch discovered during her travels on the East Coast in 2006. The photograph was that of a Saltbox home being pulled across the ocean to its new location by two men in a rowboat. The forlorn beauty of this image resonated with her long after her return home to Vancouver.

TIDAL invites viewers to explore concepts of home and our emotional and physical attachments to it. Vanessa Hall-Patch recreates her collection of photographs into prints with layers of traditional and contemporary printmaking techniques. Sheets are then bound together with chine collé, collage and thread.
